SILESIANKA
Already in 2016, this Czech-Polish Euroregion started its first steps towards the creation of a new cross-border product in the form of a tourist trail including more than thirty lookout towers and viewpoints on both the Czech and Polish sides of the Euroregion. At its beginning, existing viewpoints and the interest of municipalities, towns, and other entities in creating new ones were mapped.
Thirteen new lookout towers were then gradually prepared for implementation on both sides of the Euroregion, ten of which have already been implemented in the form of smaller projects financed by the Euroregion Silesia Micro-project Fund within the EU Interreg V-A Czech Republic - Poland programme over the last two years.
The remaining three large lookout towers - in Vladislav (Wodzisław Śląski), Budišov nad Budišovkou and Jeseník nad Odrou - were realized during the last year, within the framework of a larger joint project "Silesianka - the trail of lookout towers and viewpoints in the Euroregion Silesia" managed by the Czech and Polish sides of the Euroregion Silesia and supported by EU funds in the amount of 850 thousand euro.
The trail consists of a total of 34 objects, of which 23 are on the Czech side and 11 on the Polish side of the Euroregion. Tall and low, wooden and concrete, in the city and in the countryside. There are hidden objects everywhere, which entice with beautiful views of the Czech-Polish border area.
A unique cross-border hiking trail of lookout towers and viewpoints
The three lookout towers that were built/reconstructed within the project, together with other lookout towers and viewpoints on the Czech and Polish sides of the Euroregion Silesia, have become linked into a new cross-border tourist product offering a bird's eye view of interesting places. It includes over thirty lookout points both newly built and already existing ones, such as the city tower "Hláska" in Opava, Bezruč lookout point in Hradec nad Moravicí, the lookout tower in the old city hall in Głubczyce, High Furnace No. 1 with the superstructure Bolt Tower in Ostrava. All of these places create a comprehensive offer in the form of the cross-border trail "Silesianka", for which a map in electronic and printed form and a brochure in four languages have been published. The trail is marked by QR codes on the individual objects.
A selection of thematic trips - on foot, for families with children, by bike or by car - can serve well for visiting the objects on the trail. You can collect points for the vandrbuch for visiting individual objects and receive material rewards within the Loyalty Programme. So don’t hesitate and register.

Where did the mascot of the Trail come from?
It looks like a tower on thin legs, it's got a cheery smile, a backpack on its back and binoculars (and it doesn't wear a facemask). This is the mascot of the newly created trail of lookout towers and viewpoints in the Euroregion Silesia called "Silesianka". The final design of the mascot was created as part of a children's public competition in which children from Czech and Polish primary schools took part.
